Program Assessment

UBC School of Information assessment committee, faculty and director oversee the assessment of all programs at the school to ensure that they are evaluated on an ongoing basis.

The assessment includes statistical data on average program duration, retention rate, learning outcomes, and employment data from recent graduates.

Learning outcomes assessment

The UBC School of Information professional programs (MLIS, MAS and Dual MAS/MLIS) are subject to ongoing evaluation through a learning outcomes assessment program. The results of the assessment are reported annually in a report:

Statistical data on enrolment and completion rates

The Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies gathers and provides information on all graduate-level degree programs at the university. In addition to general program and tuition information, graduate studies provides information on enrolment data and program completion rates.

Alumni survey

Graduates of the professional programs at UBC School of Information (Master of Archival Studies, Master of Library and Information Studies, and the Dual Master of Archival Studies and Library and Information Studies) find work in various locations and institutions. Our alumni hold positions with various titles, including knowledge manager, digital asset coordinator, faculty liaison librarian and senior archivist, among many more. They work at all levels of government, academic institutions, both the private and the public sector, in non-profit organizations and corporations.

To better understand the trends and challenges for our graduates in obtaining employment as professionals, UBC iSchool conducts an annual survey of graduates from its three professional programs (MAS, MLIS, and MAS/LIS). This allows us to identify trends in employment, as well as benefit from the views of our graduates a year later.
