Dr. Jean Barman and Professor Emeritus Roderick Barman are retired faculty members at UBC. Professor Emeritus Barman once taught a course “Oral History and the Archives” in what was then the School of Library Science.
While researching and writing some twenty books on British Columbia history, including The West Beyond the West, the standard work on the province, Jean Barman built an extensive collection of materials and research notes, including interviews, on the subject. The materials are,of considerable value if they are organized and catalogued.
Unfortunately, Jean Barman’s age (85) together with her physical infirmities means that, while she is very conscious of the significance of her collection, she can not undertake organizing it. At the age of 88, Professor Emeritus Barman lacks the physical stamina that the task demands. What they need is to find a someone with archival training who can – suitably paid – undertake the project.
Interested students or recent graduates are invited to send expressions of interest to Professor Victoria Lemieux (v.lemieux@ubc.ca).
This call will remain open until the position is filled.
