Purpose of the project:
This project involves updating a set of online courses provided by the Public Knowledge Project for academic journal editors, reviewers, and authors to learn about scholarly publishing. These courses are housed in PKP School and consist of online, self-paced learning modules with text, short videos, lists of resources, discussion questions, activities, and quizzes. Course content will be updated to ensure they are relevant, current, and useful to key audiences. This project will be carried out remotely.

Summary of activities required to carry out the project:

  • Participate in community feedback activities (focus groups) to gather input from the community about the courses offered in PKP School and priorities for future course development.
  • Participate in a review of existing courses, using an established rubric, to assess what types of revisions and updates are needed for each course, module, and unit.
  • Based on community feedback and completed course rubrics, complete updates by re-writing text, creating video tutorials (optional), locating up-to-date resources, and developing new discussion questions, activities, and quizzes.

Expectations of the end result of the project, for both host and student:

Host
Gain a revised set of online courses to share with our community with content that is timely, relevant, engaging, and useful.

Student
Gain a deeper understanding of scholarly publishing concepts and strategies for online course development.
