Purpose of the project:
To undertake a project to promote and increase the usage of library materials. Work collaboratively with the Teacher-Librarian and independently to promote library materials through reference services and promotion. This will include providing reader’s advisory to students and staff in the library. This may include visual promotion such as making posters, book lists, shelf talkers, and creative displays. It may involve preparing scripts and possibly recording book ads for the morning announcements, book talks for classes, book events like book tastings and more. This could include programming such as book clubs. We’ve worked hard to renew the collection in the past few years and now need to work on communicating what we have to the school community.
Summary of activities required to carry out the project:
- Student(s) will practice reference services by conducting reference interviews and providing search assistance and reader’s advisory to students, school staff, and parents
- Student(s) will use research skills to identify best practices for findability for young patrons and create an needed signage or other changes needed to promote student interdependence in the library
- Student will use library management software (Follett Destiny) to run circulation reports on the collection and use data to target collections or titles to promote
- Student will use computer programs (Canva is one option) to design posters and other promotional materials
- Student will proactively and creatively make a plan for promoting library materials and tracking library use
