Database Development Assistant

Project:

Developing a database to track a two stage proposal process

Description:

A subset of instructors within the Faculty of Arts will be submitting their courses to the Dean’s office to be considered for a specific designation / flag within the Faculty. This process encompasses a two stage proposal structure, and at  each stage we will need to track:  instructor name and demographics, file submitted, assigned reviewers, reviewer comments, decision, and communication steps.  We will want to create report templates that allow us to generate reports on: courses by proposal stage, courses by department, and courses by year submitted. The database will eventually need to accommodate approximately 150 courses, and approximately 200 contacts.

We currently have a half finished database set up in MS Access. This can either be modified or if there is another platform that is recommended, we can migrate to the new platform.

Supervision:

You will be working with the PJ Rayner, an Educational Strategist in the Faculty of Arts Deans office. They have been managing the proposal process for the last several years and will be guiding the database development project.

Pay and timeline:

The pay for this work is $35/hour and we suspect that this project could be completed in 70 hours.

If interested, please reach out to PJ Rayner (pj.rayner@ubc.ca).
