Purpose of the project:
In 2019, MONOVA received a donation of an estimated 2 million negatives from the North Shore News. We are currently in the early stages of developing a project for processing, describing and digitizing these negatives and are seeking a professional experience student to help carry out a test sample of a set of negatives to determine how long the larger project would take, and how many negatives will ultimately be kept.
Summary of activities required to carry out the project:
- Rehouse negatives into archival safe storage materials
- Weed duplicates and/or similar images
- Create item-level descriptions for negatives
- Create preservation and access copies of the negatives
- Create a report for the project
- Write a blog post for monova.ca discussing the project
Expectations of the end result of the project, for both host and student:
A test sample of negatives will be arranged, described and digitized; and a project report will be produced detailing potential plans of action for the larger processing project.
The student will have gained experience planning and executing the processing and digitizing of negatives, while working in a municipal and community archives setting.
Time periods in which the project could be supervised:
- Winter Term 1 (September – December)
- Winter Term 2 (January – April)
- Summer Session, Term 1 (May – June)
- Summer Session, Term 2 (July – August)
Is there a deadline by which the project must be completed?
No deadline
