UBC iSchool (Library, Archival and Information Studies) has been ranked as the best institution in Canada for graduate education in library and information management.
The QS World University Rankings by Subject, which were released on February 28, 2018, put the iSchool at UBC as fourth in the world, and number one in Canada.
For the first time in its history, QS World University Rankings included a subject for Library & Information Management in its 2018 rankings. Featuring 50 universities in total, this year’s ranking contains institutions from 17 different countries, including five schools in Canada.
“Inclusion in these rankings is a tremendous recognition of library and information schools around the globe, and for the iSchool in particular,” says iSchool Director Luanne Freund. “At UBC we have been steadily strengthening the quality and international reputation of our programs in library, archival and information studies and our faculty are doing outstanding research. It is wonderful to be recognized in this way.”
“These rankings are further justification for something we’ve long known to be true – information management is an essential skill and discipline in the digital era,” says Freund.
2018 ranking for UBC’s iSchool
McGill University and University of Toronto tied for 11th place. The number one spot around the globe is tied between the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (US) and the University of Sheffield (UK).
The QS rankings are based upon academic reputation, employer reputation and research impact – using research citations per paper in relevant subjects.
