UBC iSchool is pleased to announce the appointment of Associate Professor Luanne Freund as Acting Director, effective July, 2015, for a one year term. The current Director, Professor Caroline Haythornthwaite is stepping down, having served in this role since 2010.
Dr. Freund joined the School in 2007 with a PhD from the University of Toronto, Faculty of Information and an MLS degree from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. At the iSchool, she has held the positions of Associate Director and Chair of the PhD Program since 2014, and has demonstrated leadership in a number of areas, including curriculum development and learning outcomes assessment.
Dr. Freund is known internationally for her research on information retrieval and is the author of more than 50 publications in the areas of human information interaction, LIS education, and e-government information. She has held federal SSHRC and NCE grants, including serving as a Network Investigator for the 5 year, multidisciplinary Graphics, Animation and New Media (GRAND) Network of Centres of Excellence.
