About the Job Board

Connecting students with work opportunities

The primary purpose of the iSchool Job Board is to connect current students with job opportunities during their studies, including paid and unpaid work, professional experience placements or other project-based work. The iSchool has worked with more than 150 organizations in the Lower Mainland, Canada and beyond to provide hands-on learning experiences for students.

Past jobs have included:

  • Research Librarian at the Library of Parliament
  • Internship at the United Nations Sustainable Development Archives
  • Technical Services Student Librarian at UBC’s Xwi7xwa Library
  • Digital and Social Media Coordinator at the Canadian Journal of Library & Information Practice and Research
  • Archives Assistant at the Winnipeg Health Sciences Centre Archives

Posting procedure

Employers can submit opportunities using the online form.

Each submission must contain:

  • Job title
  • Job description (max 200 words)
  • Deadline for applications
  • Wage where applicable
  • Time period (i.e. short term: 12 weeks or less; long-term: 4-12 months; on-going)
  • Link to more information (i.e. job posting on the organization’s website)

Each work opportunity should fit into one of the following categories:

  • Full time (35 hours + per week)
  • Part-time (less than 35 hours per week)
  • Professional Experience (LIBR/ARST 596, separate form required)
  • Internship (typically unpaid work)
  • Volunteer

We recommend a standard wage of $18-25 per hour for positions requiring Master’s level experience, but this is not a requirement.

Posting length

Professional experience opportunities will be posted for a maximum of six months. If there are no applicants after this time, the employer and the Educational Services Manager can discuss reframing or altering the proposal and re-posting for another six-month period.

The UBC iSchool will also post jobs for recent graduates and alumni. For professional jobs, if no deadline is given, or if the position is “open until filled,” the iSchool will post the position for a period of 30 days, after which time the post will be deleted. Employers looking for alumni with many years of experience can also post their jobs on the BCLA Partnership Job Board or other venues.
