Meet Alex Jensen, the UBC iSchool Peer Advisor for this academic year!
Hello! My name is Alex Jensen (he/him/his). I am a third-year MAS/MLIS Dual student here at UBC and I am your new iSchool Peer Advisor. I am also an international student, originally from Chicago, IL. I received my undergraduate degree, a Bachelor of Arts in English, from Butler University in Indianapolis, IN. Additionally, I have a Minor in Critical Communications and Media Studies. As a Dual student, I have experience with two of the three master’s degrees offered by the iSchool, and I am free to answer any questions you may have and offer advice about life at UBC, in Vancouver, and navigating campus and classes. I understand that being a Grad student can be filled with stress and anxiety, especially about midterms and finals. I will freely admit that I found many courses academically challenging, but with the help of the Peer Advisor, I was able to thrive and succeed. I want to help you have a rewarding and as stress-free a time as can be while here in the iSchool.
The mission of the iSchool Peer Advisor is to contribute to the overall success and well-being of students by creating a positive, engaging, and supportive social and learning environment. The main responsibilities of the iSchool Peer Advisor are:
- Organizing academic events for graduate students in iSchool
- Providing information and guidance on iSchool procedures
- Attending to concerns and questions from a student’s perspective
- Building a welcoming and inclusive environment
- Researching and creating resources for student support
- Helping to ensure that the graduate student experience is rewarding and collegial
Feel free to connect with Alex if you have any questions about your student experience and program of study. You can contact him anytime by email at ischool.peer@ubc.ca or chat with him in person from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. on Wednesdays and Fridays in the Bralorne Lounge or by appointment for online meetings.
