Are you interested in music librarianship? Do you want to learn more about how to become a music librarian?

Join us on Monday, October 19, from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. for this virtual presentation about music librarianship as a career choice. This session will feature an overview of the Music Library Association (MLA), and it will cover different topics, such as what are the responsibilities of a music librarian, what qualifications and skills are needed to become a music librarian, and what kinds of jobs are available. The presentation will be followed by a student Q&A.

 

Meet the presenters

Lisa Shiota, Publicity & Outreach Officer, Music Library Association (MLA)

As Publicity & Outreach Officer at MLA, Lisa promotes the interests and activities of the Association at conferences, schools, and through its social media. She is also a music cataloger at the Library of Congress and performs with various musical groups in the Washington, DC area.

Kevin Madill, Music Librarian, UBC

Kevin holds a Master of Library and Information Studies (MLIS) from UBC, a BMus (Honors, Theory, and Composition) from Western University, as well as an MFA and BFA from UBC. He is experienced working as a library administrator, library manager, and liaison/collections librarian in academic and special libraries in the United States and Canada, including the Museum of Modern Art, New York, and Pratt Institute, Brooklyn.
