Where do you work outside of teaching at UBC iSchool, and how do you bring your professional experiences/expertise into the classroom?
I have been very fortunate to work in the UBC Library for the last twenty years. The size of our organization allowed me to constantly explore new areas of the profession and it is my fifth position within the Library, including my service as a Health Librarian, Science and Engineering Librarian, Department Head, and a secondment for university business. I am currently the Research Data Management Librarian, a position that I helped to create back in 2014.
What’s your favourite thing about teaching at UBC iSchool?
The entire purpose of my teaching is to help graduate colleagues who are skilled and interested in working with research data. Many of these students became brilliant coworkers and collaborators during the last few years.
What’s a fun fact about you?
I find it important to participate in the community and have an impact on our society. I have coached high school volleyball with my daughters’ teams for many years (Go Hawks Go!) and served on the board of directors for a variety of community organizations. I enjoy kayaking and my daily 6am run in the Pacific Spirit Park.
