Project Option 1
Purpose of the project:
The UX Research Team at the Department of Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) is looking for help setting up the information architecture of our Sharepoint file system.
The project would involve cataloguing and organizing the existing UX Research Team’s Sharepoint/OneDrive to serve both the interests of the researchers and the research operations. This essential organizational work will inform the development of a Sharepoint site that operates as a “one-stop-shop” for templates, guidance and best practices.
Summary of activities required to carry out the project:
The work would include a content audit and analysis of existing content, followed by a number of user research tasks to establish various user stories. The research activities may include user interviews, stakeholder mapping, tree testing, A/B testing, user feedback collection and iteration of the product.
Expectations of the end result of the project, for both host and student:
The outcome of the project would be an information architecture for the Sharepoint site, including a presentation to the UX Research Team. If the time permits, the student is welcome to help us begin setting up the actual site.
The student will develop skills in information architecture, user research, and presenting their recommendations to stakeholders.
Project Option 2
Purpose of the project:
The UX Research Team at the Department of Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) is looking for help in setting up a UX Research repository. The objective will be to develop a simple research repository prototype with Microsoft suite tools. The repository should effectively collect information from researchers, be searchable and usable by people across the organization, easily interpreted, and enable research insights to be re-used.
Summary of activities required to carry out the project:
This project will include user research activities such as user interviews, cataloguing insights, service blueprinting, card sorting, user feedback collection and iteration. It will also include an assessment of existing tools to determine which ones might be the best fit for the job.
Expectations of the end result of the project, for both host and student:
The outcome of the project would be a prototype of a research repository, with fully developed information architecture and possibly, some integrated functionality to help filter or share insights.
The student will have a chance to present their work to the UX Research team and perhaps even the adjacent UX Design and Business Analysis teams. They will develop skills in information architecture, user research, and Research Operations (ReOps).
Time periods in which the project could be supervised:
- Summer Session, Term 1 (May – June)
- Summer Session, Term 2 (July – August)
Is there a deadline by which the project must be completed?
September
Considering the project requirements, please suggest suitable coursework as pre-requisite or co-requisite:
