Dr. Luciana Duranti elected next ACA President

The Association of Canadian Archivists (ACA) has elected SLAIS Professor Luciana Duranti as its next President. Her two-year term will begin on January 1st, 2017 and end on December 31st 2018. Dr. Duranti will be the first person to have held the position of President of both the Society of American Archivist (SAA) and the ACA. She is also both an SAA (1998) and ACA (2014) Fellow, the highest recognition given by these associations to their members. Screen-Luciana-3
Dr. Duranti has been involved in the archival field since 1973, and has been a professor in the archival program at the School since 1987. In addition to teaching, she carries out numerous scholarly, professional, and knowledge dissemination activities, including participation in national and international conferences, committees, and organizations, such as UNESCO; delivery of public talks in events open to non-specialized audiences and invited lectures in several universities; and publication in the areas of archival science and history and diplomatics. Since 1998, she has been the Director of InterPARES, a multi-national and multi-disciplinary research project studying the long-term preservation of authentic electronic records. She is also the Chair of the Canadian Government Standards Board Committee for the “Electronic Records as Documentary Evidence” standard.
Of particular importance has been her work with the ACA education committees, involving the writing of the “Guidelines for the Development of a Two-Year Curriculum for a Master of Archival Studies Programme,” Archivaria 29 (1989-90): 128-141. The UBC MAS program’s current curriculum reflects the guidelines, which still represent the Canadian standard for archival education. Dr. Duranti is the Faculty Advisor of the ACA UBC Student Chapter since 2008.
Please join us in congratulating Dr. Luciana Duranti!
