We are excited to announce that the School of Information recently received funding through the Advancing Education Renewal Call for Proposals for its project Re-envisioning the First Nations Curriculum Concentration. Funded by UBC Vancouver’s Academic Excellence Funds, this one-year project will focus on reimagining and strengthening the School’s First Nations Curriculum Concentration (FNCC).
A team of faculty and students will lead a series of dialogue sessions with UBC iSchool students and faculty, along with interviews with representatives from aligned units and centres across campus. Guided by FNCC Coordinator Amy Perreault, Dr. Lisa Nathan and Dr. Luanne Sinnamon, the project seeks to:
- Develop a vision statement for the FNCC to guide its ongoing development
- Renew the structure of the FNCC Advisory Board
- Map out a 3-year plan for co-developing interdisciplinary courses and projects (e.g., archival ethics agreements for community-led projects) with units across UBC.

The Advancing Education Renewal initiative is intended to help advance Strategy 11: Education Renewal of UBC’s strategic plan. This strategy seeks to facilitate sustained program renewal and improvements in teaching effectiveness, emphasizing expanding opportunities for graduate students to learn about teaching and broadening their learning as they prepare for their careers.
