About
My research is focused on surveillance, technology, social media, activism, and youth. I am interested in how activists understand current surveillant assemblages, including artificial intelligence, and if any steps are being taken on their part to subvert or work within these systems. Much of my interest is centered on social media and the everyday use of technology, and if knowing about the embedded surveillance within these technologies influences user behavior. Overall, my research seeks to uncover and amplify the creative resiliency and hopes of activists, particularly youth activists, within our current technocapitalist landscape, in which our every move is being watched by an ever increasing surveillance apparatus. I am also interested in feminist, participatory, and decolonial methodologies that center participants and their lived experiences. I am currently focusing on climate justice activists within the Greater Vancouver area.
