About

My research focuses on analyzing how informal information sources, such as popular culture, inform how young people define sexual assault. Past projects have included research on television as a mode of comprehensive sex education, youth language development through online pornography, and ethical dimensions of social media research.

My educational background in journalism and communications led me to the belief that conversations about popular (i.e. “low”) culture often represent something much bigger: such as themes of identity, pedagogy, privilege, etc. I hope to pursue a career in discussing the larger placement of popular culture in people’s lives and promoting a more media literate society by collaborating working with scholars, creators, and creatives who hope to do the same.
