Eugene Barsky is the Research Data Management Librarian at UBC Library, where he has worked for more than twenty years, and has taught LIBR 559S / ARST 556K, Research Data Management for Information Professionals, at the UBC iSchool since 2014. His research focuses on research data management and national data infrastructure, including data discovery, data curation and the use of AI tools to support it, persistent identifiers, and the FAIR principles. He is a co-founder of the Portage Network and served as principal investigator of the national Geodisy project for geospatial data discovery and as chair of the DataCite Canada Consortium Governing Committee. His contributions have recently been recognized with the CARL Award of Merit (2020) and the CRKN Ron MacDonald Outstanding Service Award (2025). He has authored more than a hundred conference presentations and publications.
