Children’s librarians are essential in building the next generation of library patrons. Public libraries provide access to recreational and informational materials, plus the experiences vital to a child’s enjoyment of reading and lifelong learning. The Marion Sherman Bursary for Children’s Librarians was established to encourage library science students to study children’s librarianship. This challenge is particularly acute for Saskatchewan libraries that have no library school from which to draw “home-grown” children’s librarians.
The $750 Marion Sherman Bursary for Children’s Librarians is awarded annually to a library science student in an accredited Canadian graduate school of library or information science to assist with tuition expenses.
The successful applicant should have a demonstrated commitment to children’s librarianship. Wapiti Regional Library Board administers the Marion Sherman Bursary for Children’s Librarians and would appreciate it if you could make available the attached poster and application form.
The deadline for completed applications is Tuesday, October 13, 2015.
