UBC iSchool’s Doctoral Student Association (DSA) and LASSA invite you to Threads, a student-run and supported speakers series to share your research interests with other Masters and PhD students in a low pressure and fun way. Choose any sort of presentation style that appeals to you: a regular 15-minute talk, a comedy standup, a petcha kucha, spoken word poetry, or if you have another idea let us know!. Each part of the series will have speakers from DSA and LASSA. Faculty and staff are welcome to attend.

- Archivists & Professionalization
Ted Lee is a 4th year PhD student studying the professionalization of archivists in the US and Canada. He got into this research topic after a colleague called him unprofessional and he started wondering what professionalism even meant. He is particularly interested in how different technologies, labour conditions, communication practices, and information communities affect how (un)professional behaviour is defined.
- Science Fiction and Fantasy Short Stories Database
The SFFSSDB is an ongoing project by current MLIS students Amber Lamboo, Em Conacher, Hannah Oudenaar, Leah Vanderweide, and Samuel Plato. The database began as a directed studies project in order to fill a gap and create a free resource for users to browse SFF anthologies and collections. The database is available online for browsing at sffshortstoriesdatabase.ca but is still a work in progress, as we use it as a place to continue to learn about databases, cataloguing, and metadata.
