PNC/MLA Pacific Northwest Chapter meeting in Seattle

Colleagues,

You are invited to the annual meeting of the Pacific Northwest Chapter of MLA next month in downtown Seattle. The meeting will kick off with a Welcome Reception and Poster Session and continue with a great line-up of invited speakers, paper presentations, and opportunities for networking.  Our Monday evening reception will feature local bee expert Bob Redmond, founder of The Common Acre.

Five outstanding continuing education classes are offered on October 17 and 18 (see full descriptions at http://pnc-mla.cloverpad.org/CE):

  1. Don’t Panic: You CAN Find Health Statistics – 4 hours

This recommended class was recently presented at the Canadian Health Libraries Association and will introduce participants to a variety of statistics resources, with hands-on practice.

  1. Finding, recommending, and using apps for medical reference – an interactive workshop – 2 hours

Taught by a medical provider, this session will cover Android and iOS apps and teach participants how to evaluate which apps to recommend to students and practitioners with an evidence-based approach, as well as how to use them.

  1. Library as a Service Organization – 4 hours

How do we mesh our mission and philosophy for our libraries with our organization’s priorities, while providing the best service possible to our users? This class interactively explores methods and interactions from a variety of perspectives.

  1. Electronic Resources: Negotiations and Licensing – 4 hours

Are you the one in your organization who negotiates the licensing for electronic resources? Do you wish you had more background on the concepts and strategies needed to get the best terms possible? This class is for you!

  1. Fundamentals of Data Visualization – 4 hours

Valuable to all types of librarians, this session will teach about visual perception of data and the design principles involved in presenting information strategically.
