Dr. Isto Huvila will be joining the iSchool as Visiting Professor on August 13 and will be staying for 1 year.
Professor Isto Huvila holds the chair in information studies at the Department of ALM (Archival Studies, Library and Information Science and Museums and Cultural Heritage Studies) at Uppsala University in Sweden and is adjunct professor (docent) in information management at Information Studies, Åbo Akademi University in Turku, Finland. Huvila received a MA degree in cultural history at the University of Turku in 2002 and a PhD degree in information studies at Åbo Akademi University (Turku, Finland) in 2006.
His primary areas of research include information and knowledge management, information work, knowledge organisation, documentation, and social and participatory information practices. The contexts of his research ranges from archaeology and cultural heritage, archives, libraries and museums to health information and e-health, social media, virtual worlds and corporate and public organisations. Huvila is currently directing CApturing Paradata for documenTing data creation and Use for the REsearch of the future (CAPTURE) project funded by a European Research Council Consolidator Grant and chairing European-wide Archaeological practices and knowledge work in the digital environment (ARKWORK) action funded by COST – European Cooperation in Science and Technology in 2016-2020. He has recently edited two books on archaeological information work (Archaeology and archaeological information in the digital society, Routledge 2018) and Research outside the academy (Palgrave MacMillan 2019 together with Lisa Börjesson)
