iSchool Doctoral Candidate wins SSHRC Award

We are happy to be able to announce that Doctoral Candidate Jessica Bushey has been awarded a two year SSHRC grant to support her research on the Trustworthiness of Digital Photographs accessed and stored in Social Media Platforms.

Approached through the lens of archival science and digital diplomatics, Jessica’s research focuses on the the factors that support and hinder the trustworthiness of digital photographs and photographs collections in platforms such as Facebook and Flickr and will establish how contemporary image-making and keeping activities affect the value of digital photographs as records to be acquired or transferred to archival institutions for long-term preservation. There are a number of phases to Jessica’s research, including a web-based survey completed in Spring 2014, interviews, content analysis of social media provider’s Terms of Service and review of relevant case law. The primary target audience for this research is the archival, records and information management communities. The secondary target audience for this research is creators of digital photographs that use social media platforms for access, management and storage of their digital collections.

Congratulations Jessica!
