UBC iSchool and IDEAS@UBC present: The IBPOC Voices Speaker Series
The IBPOC Voices Speaker Series is a series jointly hosted by the UBC iSchool and IDEAS@UBC. Held in place of the school’s usual in-person colloquium, the series offers a platform for IBPOC information professionals to share their valuable experience and research on a range of topics related to library, archival and information studies.
Abstract
Inspired by the words of Chief Richard Sidney of the Teslin Tlingit Council on what he thinks will make Indigenous research collaborations successful, this talk will address how librarians and library students can actively support Indigenous community-led research projects through course design and consultation. During this talk, we will explore the thought process and design of the library modules for the TLEF funded UPROOT pharmacy project and the collaboration process that happened between the UPROOT project leaders and the Xwi7xwa library. As well we will explore how we can expand our knowledge outside of LIS to truly ensure the success of Indigenous community-led research for all involved.

About IDEAS (Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, Access and Safe Space)
IDEAS@UBC is a student group that seeks to provide a safe and productive community for IBPOC (Indigenous, Black, and People of Colour) students in departments and fields of study related to information, cultural, and memory work at the UBC School of Information. We aim to amplify IBPOC voices in information studies and encourage dialogue on topics such as anti-racism, Indigenous knowledge and information practices, and systemic barriers in library, archival and information studies. We also host social events and offer a safe space for IBPOC students in the iSchool programs to share resources on navigating underrepresentation in the GLAM (galleries, libraries, archives and museums) sector.
