In this presentation, Kaelan Doyle will explore the gap between theory and practice in the field of records management and privacy. Drawing from his experience as Manager of District Records and Privacy at the Surrey School District, he will discuss the challenges of balancing theoretical knowledge with the practical realities of working in the public sector, including budget constraints and resource limitations.

Kaelan will share how he applies concepts from his Master of Archival Studies degree from UBC to navigate these challenges and ensure effective records management and privacy compliance in a public organization.

Kaelan DoyleKaelan Doyle is the Manager of District Records and Privacy at the Surrey School District, where he oversees the records management, information access and privacy programs of the organization. He previously worked as a Freedom of Information Advisor at the Fraser Health Authority and as a Metadata Administrative Analyst at the Provincial Health Services Authority. As a graduate of the UBC Master of Archival Studies program, Kaelan focuses on the practical application of records management and privacy principles in the public sector. His work integrates academic training with operational needs, emphasizing efficient and compliant records management and privacy practices.
