In its twelfth year as a joint program between the Art Libraries Society of North America (ARLIS/NA) and the Visual Resources Association Foundation (VRAF), SEI 2105 will be held at the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign from June 9-12, 2015.
SEI (Summer Educational Institute for Visual Resources and Image Management) is an intensive workshop featuring a curriculum that specifically addresses the requirements of today’s professional. Expert instructors cover intellectual property rights, the digital lifecycle, metadata and cataloging, essential tools of image management, digital preservation, and uses of images in digital humanities.
The SEI curriculum is especially suited to information professionals new to the field and those currently enrolled in library schools who wish to gain image management training. Individuals with a range of professional roles have benefited from past SEIs, including university and public librarians, archivists, and professionals responsible for image rights and reproductions in museums or publishing. A 2014 SEI grad, enrolled while completing library school, noted: “SEI provided me with a supportive and accessible environment to ask questions, connect with new colleagues, and learn about the many career possibilities in visual resource management as well as within the greater LIS field. I gained a lot of clarity around my own interests, and was able to hone in on the areas of specialization that I further wanted to pursue.”
More information about SEI, including curriculum and instructors, can be found on the workshop website. Please feel free to contact the SEI co-chairs, Meghan Musolff (musolffm@umich.edu) or Greta Bahnemann (bahne002@umn.edu) with any questions.
Reduced tuition is offered to VRA and ARLIS/NA members.
