iSchool alum Martha Whitehead leading Harvard Library



Martha Whitehead (MLIS ’85) who has led the library at Queen’s University, has been named University Librarian at Harvard University. Martha has been head at Queen’s since 2011, and has previously held roles at UBC Library from 1985 to 2004.

Harvard Library is one of the largest academic libraries in the world, with a network of more than 25 separate libraries and more than 700 staff members. Their collections number more than 20 million volumes, 400 million manuscripts, 10 million photographs, 1 million maps, and tens of millions of digital images.

I look forward to stewarding Harvard’s extraordinary collections, as well as helping the library play a critical role in the global digital landscape.
