On Friday November 18, the Keeping it REAL – Research in Academic Libraries event took place at the Irving K. Barber Learning Centre – http://emefie2.wixsite.com/real
The event was an outstanding success. Organized by Dr. Heather O’Brien (UBC iSchool), Holly Hendrigan (Simon Fraser University), Erin Fields and Jo-Anne Naslund (University of British Columbia Library), Christine Walde (University of Victoria Library), it brought together 60 participants from three academic library systems (SFU, UVic and UBC) to interact with one another and with iSchool researchers to discuss and encourage a research culture among academic librarians. Topics of the day included : Theory and Methodology, Grant Writing, Research Culture, and the Future of Research. This is a great start on what we hope will be an ongoing collaboration focused on fostering research. A number of iSchool students were involved as volunteers and note-takers, so there is a full record of the event on the website and in the twitter feed (#REAL_16). Sponsorship of the event came from the UBC, UVic and SFU Libraries, the Barber Centre and from the iSchool.
