Designing for People (DFP) Grad Training Program

The University of British Columbia’s Designing for People Research Cluster is a highly interdisciplinary network of researchers, industry and community partners, and design experts. DFP draws together faculty and students from units across campus with the goal of bringing interactive technologies to bear on hard HCI problems. At the nexus of DFP is the CREATE Graduate Research program.

The DFP CREATE Program invites UBC iSchool PhD and Masters’ candidates to apply for their Fall 2022 cohort. Students must first apply or be already enrolled in one of the School’s graduate programs (MLIS, MAS, DUAL, or PhD) and then apply with a DFP supervisor’s nomination to a DFP program cohort for team-based design experience and networking alongside their home thesis research program.

DFP CREATE Application Deadline

  • March 01, 2022: First intake deadline. Students are encouraged to apply for this deadline as the number of spots available in the second intake may be limited.
  • May 23, 2022: Second intake deadline. Applications received after this deadline but before September 2021 may be considered at the discretion of the DFP CREATE directors if spots remain or become available.
  • August 12, 2022: Deadline to request exemption from DFP Fundamentals (CPSC 544) for the offering of DFP Project in January 2023. (Without an exemption, Fundamentals must be taken in September 2022).
