Alums Allison Jones and Karen Ng receive 2021 BCLA Intellectual Freedom Award



 

MLIS alum Allison Jones and Dual MASLIS alum Karen Ng have received the 2021 BCLA Intellectual Freedom Award for their podcast “Organizing Ideas“. This award is given to an individual or organization that demonstrates significant advancement of intellectual freedom in the public realm for the benefit of British Columbians and that champions intellectual freedom issues in their library, community, province, or country.

Allison and Karen are the hosts of this podcast. On Organizing Ideas, they take a closer look at the relationships between organizing information and community organizing and talk to information professionals, activists, and other insightful individuals who have thoughts about topics such as intellectual freedom, equity, and social justice, among others. The first episode aired in September 2019, and since then, they have recorded three full seasons, available on their website. They are currently recording new episodes and planning to release them in Fall 2021.
