MLIS alumni Kate Longley and Danielle Wing receive BC SRC Community Story Award Winner

BCLA (British Columbia Library Association) has announced that Kate Longley of North Vancouver City Library and Danielle Wing of North Vancouver District Public Library are the 2021 BC Summer Reading Club Community Story Award winners.

The Association introduced this award in 2013. Each year, the BC Summer Reading Club (SCR) presents this award to an individual whose story best demonstrates the impact of the SRC within their community. 2020 was a difficult and unpredictable year for libraries and the BC Summer Reading Club community. So when they put out our call to find our Community Story Award winner, they wanted to find stories that celebrated the amazing work that libraries did in finding ways to bring SRC to their communities during this unprecedented time.

Last year, Kate and Danielle were able to find ways to bring their two library systems together to collaborate and found ways to adapt and still make some SRC traditions happen. Both the North Vancouver City Library and the North Vancouver District Public Library took the big step to coordinate their Children’s and Teen Summer Reading Club program promotion to the schools and worked together to present exciting virtual programming.
