METADATA MANAGEMENT STRATEGIES
PREREQUISITES:
MLIS and Dual MAS/MLIS: LIBR 500, LIBR 501, LIBR 502
MAS: completion of MAS core and permission of the iSchool Graduate Advisor
GOALS: The goal of this course is to introduce students to strategies and supporting technologies for creating and managing various types of metadata used in libraries.
OBJECTIVES:
Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Describe the major types of metadata used in libraries
- Assess workflow requirements for metadata creation and management
- Describe and evaluate existing technologies that support metadata workflows
- Discuss relevant organizational factors such as cost, staffing, and collaboration
- Demonstrate the ability to find and apply examples of metadata creation and management practices from the field and literature
