SUMMARY: Safeguarding Scholarly Integrity: the role of critical information
 literacy
DESCRIPTION: Dr. Shahid will draw upon her postdoctoral research project wi
th Dr. Luanne Sinnamon on scholarly misconduct.
X-ALT-DESC;FMTTYPE=text/html:
Registration for this event is recommende
d but not required. Refreshments will be provided.

Scholarly miscond
uct practices challenge the integrity of research. In this context\, the tr
aditional approach to information literacy lacks a deeper and critical unde
rstanding of the scholarly research process. Critical information literacy
(CIL) emerges as a more powerful approach to information literacy which pro
motes the critical examination of social\, political and ethical dimensions
 of information production and use.

In this talk\, Dr. Shahid will dr
aw upon her postdoctoral research project with Dr. Luanne Sinnamon. She wil
l introduce the various phases of the project alongside the main outcome of
her investigation. Specifically\, Dr. Shahid will report on the initial fi
ndings of the project and discuss the synthesis of the qualitative evidence
and the review process. The qualitative systematic review is guided by the
meta-ethnography synthesis aiming to uncover overarching and cross-cutting
themes. During her talk\, she will discuss the common forms of scholarly m
isconduct practices and contributing factors within the realm of health sci
ences. Notably\, the evidence collected through meta-ethnography synthesis
reveals both similarities and differences in health science researchers’ un
derstanding of research integrity.

Furthermore\, Dr. Shahid will emph
asize the significance of Critical Information Literacy (CIL) as a framewor
k for educating learners about power dynamics inherent in the research proc
ess. By fostering informed researchers\, we can work towards eradicating sc
holarly misconduct.

<img class="alignleft wp-image-46784 size-thumbna
