Dr. Pierson will provide preliminary findi ngs of a current study examining how the LIS scholarly and practitioner lit erature conceptualise 'safe spaces' though discourse and documented strateg ies\, with focus on libraries in digital transformation. It typologizes the se conceptualisations and examines perceived responsibilities amongst pract itioners in curating of safe spaces\, the approaches practitioners utilise\ , and the sociotechnical factors influencing their choices. Implications fo r safe space cultivation in hybrid practice are discussed.

Dr. Cameron Pierson is a Lectur er at the School of Information (iSchool) at UBC. He has worked internation ally as a library worker and academic in varied institutions\, including in Australia\, New Zealand\, the USA\, Germany\, and now Canada. His research interests include librarian professional identity\, professional education in information studies\, digital transformation\, and library services and human information interaction focused on the LGBTQIA+ communities. Cameron obtained his PhD from the School of Information Management\, Victoria Univ ersity of Wellington\, New Zealand in 2021.
