Purpose of the project: | |
To describe and digitize a selection of images relating to the Chinese Methodist and United Church in British Columbia. | |
Summary of activities required to carry out the project: | |
1. Provide full item-level descriptions for images for upload to ICA AtoM: • Refining approximate dates of images where possible • Identifying individuals where possible • Applying the United Church of Canada subject and name authorities2. Scan images in accordance with in-house digitization and digital preservation procedures Images will be derived from the following 3 fonds/collections: a. Chinese United Church (Vancouver, B.C.) fonds • Photograph collection (1910-1962): 65 photographs (no selection required; descriptions need refining) b. Lily McCargar fonds • Chinese United Church mission work and Vancouver Chinese Kindergarten, 1920s-1940s: 195 photographs (some pre-scanning selection required; all items require basic description) c. Archives reference collection • Chinese Methodist/United Church communities in Vancouver, Nanaimo, Victoria, New Westminster, and Kamloops, 1900-1950: 35 photographs (no selection required; descriptions need refining) |

Expectations of the end result of the project, for both host and student: | |
At project’s end, the student will produce full item-level descriptions for ca. 250-300 photographs (depending on selection). The descriptions will be in Excel spreadsheet format. The student will also produce digital surrogates in preservation and access formats with accompanying metadata. | |
