Apply to the Designing for People (DFP) Grad Training Program

The UBC’s interdisciplinary Designing for People (DFP) is a highly interdisciplinary pan-university research cluster. DFP draws together faculty and students focused on bringing interactive technologies to bear on hard Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) problems requiring multiple perspectives to creatively address, with its nexus in its CREATE Graduate Research Program.

The DFP CREATE Program invites UBC iSchool PhD and Masters’ candidates to apply for their Fall 2021 cohort. Students must first apply or be already enrolled in one of the School’s graduate programs (MLIS, MAS, DUAL, or PhD) and then apply with a DFP supervisor’s nomination to a DFP program cohort for team-based design experience and networking alongside their home thesis research program.

Funding

DFP will competitively award several large Graduate Entrance Scholarships (GES) to DFP CREATE applicants. DFP students who do not receive a GES will receive a $5,000 Graduate Entrance Grant (GEG). All GES and GEG funding will be incorporated into the student’s overall funding package provided by their supervisor. This funding is given with the expectation that the student will complete the DFP CREATE Enrichment Program within one or two years, along the way to completing their home degree program.

DFP CREATE Application Deadline

  • March 01, 2021: First intake deadline. Students are encouraged to apply for this deadline as the number of spots available in the second intake may be limited.
