A night of fun at the Carnival of Information

The night of February 28 was not an ordinary night at the School of Information.

The walls were covered in tons of colors. There were games to pay at the Terrace Lab and prizes to win at the Bralorne Room. The smell of fresh popcorn spread across every room in the School and an almost-endless bar of treats and candy was waiting for all the adventurers that joined us for this special night.

It was the Carnival of Information!

UBC School of Information - a Carnival of Information

This was a very unique event for all the iSchool’ students to celebrate our School’s new name. Each room at the School hosted different activities, like Terrace Lab, where our staff members organized different information-inspired games, such as the popular Bitcoin Toss or Binary Moves Us. A busy Kids Zone at the Greig Lab kept the younger attendees occupied with crafts and storytelling. Bralorne Room was, without doubt, one of the most frequented areas, probably due to the variety of food and treats that were available, and the chance to put their draw tickets in to win prizes!

In the Kitimat Lab, students were able to play two special games, organized by LASSA. ‘Race to graduation’ and ‘Pin the I on the iSchool’ were some of the most fun and memorable moments of the evening.

One of the highlights of the night was Jeopardy!, School of Information Edition. The game featured two rounds, one for the general public and one for Information experts. The questions truly tested our students’ skills, especially Luciana’ set of archival questions which challenged everybody’s knowledge. But all of our contestants did an excellent job and received multiple draw tickets for their answers!. The Book Walks at the gallery were also very popular, with tons of book prizes, laughter and fun.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank everybody that joined us for this event to celebrate these exciting times at the School of Information. And a huge thanks to all the volunteers, sponsors and donors, LASSA, Kathy Shoemaker and staff members that work so hard to make this event happen, we couldn’t have done it without you!
