The iSchool (School of Library, Archival and Information Studies) at the University of British Columbia (UBC), is pleased to invite applications for the Dodson Visiting Professorship, named in honour of Suzanne and Earl Dodson. Located on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territory of the Musqueam people in Vancouver, Canada, UBC holds an international reputation for excellence in research, teaching and learning.
The Dodson Visiting Professorship provides funds for the successful candidate to spend an extended period of time, normally an academic term (Sept-Dec or Jan-Apr), engaged in research and teaching at the iSchool. The Visiting Professor will have opportunities to exchange ideas with UBC faculty and staff engaged in rigorous research and reciprocal community partnerships. Although senior scholars are preferred, appropriately qualified academics at all levels from all countries are encouraged to apply. Applicants will normally hold a doctoral degree, and currently be employed in an institution of higher education. Appointments are subject to approval by Citizenship and Immigration Canada.
UBC has established innovative community-based Indigenous research and intercultural exchange, a position of success unmatched in North America. This year’s call is for a Visiting Professor whose research in information studies complements these strengths and demonstrates innovative practices through extended community engagement and respectful research relationships. Preference will be given to candidates who are working on contemporary information initiatives by, with, and for Indigenous peoples. This may include, but is not limited to, inquiry in the areas of intellectual property, traditional knowledge management practices or Indigenous archives. This is an opportunity to work with well-known senior scholars at the iSchool as well as an outstanding group of junior faculty members active in areas such as human computer interaction, values and technology, and knowledge organization.
This Visiting Professorship offers the opportunity to work with talented and motivated graduate students by teaching up to two iSchool courses. The Dodson Visiting Professor will be welcomed into the research culture at the iSchool and will be expected to attend research talks and events, interact with doctoral students, and present her or his research at an open colloquium.
The Dodson Visiting Professorship funds this position for one term in the amount of CAD $15,000, which can be supplemented through teaching (up to two 3-credit courses) to reach a combined total of CAD $30,000.
